Music Program

The Music Ministry at Stowe Community Church is led by Greg Morrill, chair of the Music Committee and Karen Miller, an accomplished organist and choir director.

Songs for Every Sunday

The Church is very proud of our 20+ member choir which offers an anthem each Sunday from September to June. Karen plans the anthems to align with the scripture lectionary and they range from classical to contemporary. The choir rehearses on Wednesdays and is open to new members.

During the summer months when the choir is on break, special music is provided by both Church members and guest performers. Stowe Community Church also schedules special services featuring more contemporary gospel music. In line with that theme, instruments other than the organ provide accompaniment.

For a current list of musical offerings, please see our Church Calendar.

Sacred Sound: Our Historic Organ

A centerpiece of our Sunday service is the Simmons Tracker organ—originally built in 1865, restored several times, and fully functional to this day.

Karen plans a Prelude, Offertory, and Postlude each Sunday based on the liturgical calendar and provides historical background on the selections and composers in the weekly bulletin. In addition, the organ supports congregational singing of hymns during the service.

“Some of the greatest sermons that have ever been preached, were preached by the singing of a song.”

Arts Initiatives

At Stowe Community Church, we are proud to both present and host a variety of musical and theatrical productions throughout the year. These have included:

  • Family-friendly stage musicals each holiday season. Through the Stowe Community Church Youth Theater, talented local youth bring beloved stories to life in productions like A Charlie Brown Christmas (2023), Disney’s Frozen Jr. (2024), and Elf Jr. The Musical (2025). These shows are typically timed to coincide with the annual Traditional Christmas in Stowe weekend.

  • Annual Children’s Christmas Pageant. During Advent, SCC children reenact the Nativity story in a traditional Christmas pageant. A community favorite, it engages a range of ages in drama and storytelling.

  • Holiday Storytelling Events. From dramatic readings of The Night Before Christmas to old-fashioned caroling and sing-alongs, Stowe Community Church hosts special seasonal performances for the public.

To see all upcoming events please see the Church Calendar.
