*Opening Hymn       “Ours the Journey”                                                      #458

In the midst of new dimensions, in the face of changing ways,

Who will lead the pilgrim peoples wandering their sep’rate ways?

(refrain)

God of rainbow, fiery pillar, leading where the eagles soar,

We your people, ours the journey now and evermore.

Through the flood of starving peoples, warring factions and despair,

Who will lift the olive branches? Who will light the flame of care? (Refrain)

Though we reach the highest heavens, holding worlds at our command,

We are yet a desert people searching for the promised land. (refrain)

Should the threats of dire predictions cause us to withdraw in pain,

May your blazing phoenix spirit resurrect the church again. (refrain)

Liturgy of Installation

PRESENTATION:

Chris De Rienzo: Stowe Community Church welcomes you in the name of Jesus Christ. Under the guidance of the Holy Spirit this congregation has called the Rev. Dan Haugh as our pastor and teacher. Dan, servant of God, we invite you to come forward as a sign of your acceptance of God’s call to this office. Installation confirms and celebrates the covenantal relationship between this church and our pastor. Installation is a sign that we are committed to share mutually in the mission and purpose of Stowe Community Church.

EXHORTATION:

Hear these words from the apostle Paul: “We beg you, our brother, to pay proper respect to those who work among you, who guide and instruct you in the Christian life. Treat them with the greatest respect and love because of the work they do. Be at peace among yourselves.”

We urge you pastor Dan to encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with all. See that no one pays back wrong for wrong, but at all times, make it your aim to do good to one another and to all people. Be joyful always, pray at all times, be thankful in all circumstances. This is what God wants of you, in your life in Christ Jesus.

COVENANT:

Kathe Rhinesmith:

Dear friends, Stowe Community Church has declared that, having gathered under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, it has called The Rev. Dan Haugh to minister in this place as pastor and teacher and receives him as appointed by God for this ministry. We declare that he has met all the necessary conditions for installation to this office.

Pastor Dan, you are called to ordained ministry by the grace of God and to Stowe Community Church. Are you willing to enter this covenant with its members who are one in Christ?

Rev. Haugh: I am willing, and I promise to serve this church faithfully, preaching and teaching the word of God, administering the sacraments, and fulfilling the pastoral office, according to the faith and order of this church.

Chris De Rienzo: Members and friends of Stowe Community Church, will you rise in body or spirit and affirm your covenant with your pastor and teacher?

*Members and Friends: We, the members and friends of Stowe Community Church, receive The Reverend Dan Haugh as our pastor and teacher, promising to labor with him in the ministry of the gospel and to give him due honor and support. We gather with him as a sign of our mutual ministry in Christ’s name.

CONSECRATION: All Clergy guests and Board of Directors come forward to lay hands on Rev. Haugh.

PRAYER OF INSTALLATION:

Rev. Dr. Becca Girrell: Let us pray. Almighty God, you have called your servants to make promises before you; now enable us to keep our vows that we may remain steadfast in faith and fruitful in every good work.

Bless, we pray, your servant Dan to whom the care of your people in this church is now committed. Pour out your Holy Spirit on him, and on the people of Stowe Community Church, that our mutual ministry may be served with all faithfulness, diligence, and courage. Grant us the spirit of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Make our ministry a means of strengthening the faithful, comforting the afflicted and building up your church.

All: Amen.

*Closing Hymn:            “Here I am Lord”                                                                #452

I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry,

All who dwell in deepest sin my hand will save.

I who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright.

Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?

(refrain) Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night.

I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.

I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people’s pain.

I have wept for love of them, they turn away.

I will break their hearts of stone, give them hearts for love alone.

I will speak my word to them. Whom shall I send? (refrain)

I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame.

I will set a feast for them, my hand will save.

Finest bread I will provide till their hearts be satisfied.

I will give my life to them. Whom shall I send? (refrain)
